I always wanted to keep a pig as pet and call it ‘babe’, simply fell in love with them after watching that movie. But that idea will have to wait because apparently pigs are not the cute looking, gluttonous and friendly creatures anymore. Overnight they seem to have developed fangs and are dreaded by the whole mankind. Well my Oink oink dream went down the drain. Now maybe i will get a cat unless it also turns into a vampire and spread some deadly disease or starts killing people.
I think that most of the hype is created by media. In their attempt to educate people and make us aware of the happenings, the media plays with our gullible minds and make us critical of everything. Like what happened a few days back. My mother had a pain in her neck and she feared it was some kind of spondylitis. And like the caring daughter that i am, i used my brain and took her to a physician instead of an orthopaedic. Anyways, when we were waiting for the doctor with other patients we met a lot of cold and cough patients and then out of nowhere a patient came with a flu mask, maybe he was just taking precaution which by the way me and my mom should also have taken but after seeing him my mother just freaked out. She forgot all about her pain and i think that treated her spondylitis coz only a kathakali dancer can make all those eye and head gestures. Well, we came back from the clinic and after that for the whole day we were in trance, thinking about what to do next. My mother counted around a 101 diseases she thought we might have caught. I thought of going back and asking that boy if he actually had that swine thing or we are just dreaming of becoming a guinea pig. I took bath with dettol water, neem water, regular water and hot water too when its 42 degrees outside. I washed my hands around 100 times, cut my nails which by the way i was trying to grow finally as i was not chewing on them. The trauma ended after 2 days and till then neither me nor my mom told dad about our speculations. And afterwards my dad took her to an orthopedic and now she is alright. I think i freaked out because i watch a lot of news channels and have too much knowledge about the plight of this really cute creature. I mean whats its fault? It didn’t know that it had some virus. It’s a pig for crying out loud, its motto in life is to eat not to worry about some deadly virus. It didn't sleep with anyone and intentionally spread this.
So, from now onwards i will not watch any news item over and over again. I will find some other means to improve my general knowledge and like i have to enter in a quiz contest or something that i want to be updated. Its ok to forget a few minister’s names, there are so many of them anyway. And Piggy Pigestein is still my favourite :)

saw a very nice poster on road in Jaipur. had 2 people about to kiss and wearing safety masks and the poster said "Flu aaj kal". Even the drive from Hindustan Times "Its time" is good.
ReplyDeleteIn this competetive situations among News Channels some of them have failed to realise their role in our lives. Instead of making people aware they were causing panic and to disappointment they woke up really late. Elders are getting easily caught in this panic as all they do all day is watch news channels. Its more important to be educated than to just believe in others .. even if its a news channel. Choosing the right channel to watch is also necessary. I think Times Now in that manner is better choice. Don't have intention to advertise it though :)
Watch this.... You might love pigs yet again :)
